As an annual tradition the World Beer Awards were awarded in the UK. And yes, two Lambic brewers/-blenders were awarded!
Lindemans
In the category ‘World’s Best Fruit Lambic’ Lindemans BlossomGueuze took the gold, an assembly of 3 year old wood-aged Lambic, with a 12 month old Lambic and eriched with an infusion of elderflower.
In the same category brewery Lindemans (Vlezenbeek) also won silver with its Spontanbasil, while Lindemans Oude Kriek Cuvée René and Lindemans Cassis each won a bronze medal.
On top of this Lindemans Special Blend 2010 and Lindemans Oude Gueuze Cuvée René respectively won gold and silver in the category ‘World’s Best Gueuze’. Or how Vlezenbeek suddenly is 6 World Beer Awards richer. Congratulations!
Oud Beersel
Blender Oud Beersel (Beersel) on the other hand can call its Oud Beersel Oude Geuze ‘World’s Best Gueuze’, thanks to the gold in the category with this name.
Of all beer styles with sour taste the Oud Beersel Oude Geuze is separately also named as ‘World’s Best Sour Beer’, while Oud Beersel Oude Kriek won silver in the category ‘World’s Best Fruit Lambic’.
Bzart Lambiek – the Belgian sparkling beer based on Oud Beersel Lambic – finally was proclaimed World’s Beste Brut/Champagne Beer. Or how also in Beersel 4 nieuwe World Beer Awards can be hung on the wall. Congratulations!
